Dell Security Flaw – Patched

Dell Computers have acknowledged a security flaw with a certificate (eDellRoot) which is installed by the Dell Foundation Services application on their PCs. The certificate is part of a support tool designed to make servicing the system quicker and more simple. Dell have since issued an apology and a fix for the issue.

Dell has posted instructions to permanently remove the certificate from your system here. Starting yesterday, November 24, Dell have issued an update that will check for the certificate, and if detected remove it. Going forward machines will not be sent out with this certificate.

We understand that you may be concerned about this flaw, but in most instances this software is removed from the Dell computers we sell prior to sending the machines out. If you are still concerned, please read and follow the instructions for the removal of this software here or give us a call on 01326 562 310 or email enquiries@primarypcsolutions.co.uk
